Extremely Rare Lobster Skips Dinner Table, Goes to Aquarium

NIAGARA FALLS, NY-A rare yellow lobster now resides at the Aquarium of Niagara after being discovered last month in a shipment of crustaceans headed for area dinner tables.

He's lucky, and so is the aquarium, said Nancy A. Chapin, Aquarium Executive Director. "This coloration is very rare," added Chapin.

The special lobster is yellowish orange, a genetic mutation that happens in one out of every 30 million lobsters. He was donated to the local Aquarium by Palmer Food Services of Rochester.

Caught off the coast of Nova Scotia, this colorful fella was found in a shipment that arrived for the July 4th weekend. All were destined for the dinner table, but when the off-color lobster was found, an intrigued staff member immediately went on line and discovered how rare the creature was.

State Senator Antoine Thompson Birthday Greeting Angers Constituents

GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. - Call it a birthday greeting gone bad.

Several Grand Island residents are complaining to 2 On Your Side about something that recently came in the mail from State Senator Antoine Thompson (D-Buffalo).

"I was very upset," said Grand Island Resident Michael Pontikos. "And I still am."

The greeting is a generic birthday card mailer from Senator Thompson. The mailer is complete with his photo and a birthday wish. And all of it is printed, paid for, and mailed with state taxpayer dollars.

Ed Shelp, also of Grand Island, showed us the same card sent to his wife Rosemarie.

"I think it's wrong," Shelp said. "Why should we all be paying for something where he's campaigning, or whatever he's doing, and we have got pay for it. Let it come out of his own pocket."

Senator Thompson refused an interview with us Wednesday, but 2 On Your Side Photojournalist Norm Fisher caught up with Thompson recently.

Niagara Co. Republican Chair Switches Support to Paladino

LOCKPORT, NY-The Niagara County Republican Chairman and Executive Committee Tuesday reversed course and endorsed Buffalo developer Carl Paladino for Governor.

Early in, the county GOP had thrown their support behind Republican candidate Rick Lazio.  With the addition of Niagara County, Paladino has now received the backing of five county Republican chairs including Cayuga, Genesee, Orleans and Erie counties.

"Niagara County's endorsement proves confidence is growing among leading Republicans who know it is time to rid Albany of the ruling class and bring good government back to the people of New York," said Paladino.

Local Assemblywoman Jane Corwin, who also serves as treasurer for the NYS Republican Party, was also on hand to endorse Paladino.
