How to Make Your Car Last Forever: Auto Q&A with Tom Torbjornsen

How to Make Your Car Last Forever: Auto Q&A with Tom Torbjornsen

Dear Tom,

I own a 2007 Buick Lucerne. During humid mornings or evenings moisture accumulates on the windows as soon as I start the car. Activating the defroster does no good. If I put the defroster on high blower and the heat on high, then eventually the windshield will clear. At times even the rear window will fog up. What’s up with this?

Vision Airlines Initial Sales Exceed $1 Million

Vision Airlines Initial Sales Exceed $1 Million

NIAGARA FALLS, NY – Travelers have just twelve hours left until Vision Airlines, the nation's newest big jet, low-cost carrier, will end its extended $49 introductory one-way Florida fare sale.

As a promotion to boost ticket sales in a weak travel economy, Vision Airlines is seeking to cash in on the county’s cabin fever.

"Vision Airlines has now sold more than $1 million in tickets, since we opened our online store and call center 13 days ago," said Chief Operating Officer David Meers.

"However, on January 18, minutes after Vision Airlines unveiled its 23 city mega-expansion plan and announced its one week $49 seat sale, the company's reservations center was flooded with phone calls and its website was overwhelmed by more than 50,000 hits; causing its servers to crash," said company spokesman Bryan Glazer.

Dear Tom,

I own a 2010 Infiniti G-37 coupe. The tires were fine until it got cold outside. Now the tire pressure monitoring system indicates that the tire pressures are low. The tires look fine to me. What’s up with this?

The Niagara Portage Railway

The Niagara Portage Railway

The British Built a Railway Up the Escarpment at Lewiston in 1764--Often Called the First Railway on the North American Continent

Before the English captured  Fort Niagara from the French in 1759, all shipments of furs, munitions and trade goods were packed over the Lewiston escarpment by Indians hired by the French. About 200 Indians from the local Seneca tribe were employed. At the top of the escarpment ran the portage, then only an Indian trail. The English under practical Sir William Johnson built the first portage road in 1763, widening the indian trail into a wagon road.  A railway was designed and built by British Captain John Montresor. It ran up the face of the cliff, so boats could come up the river to the head of navigation at Lewiston.

Dear Tom,

My ’02 Oldsmobile Alero has had the ignition switch replaced four times in the past two years! Each time the switch fails everything seems normal. However, when I turn the key to start the vehicle nothing happens … no cranking, no clicking, it’s just dead. The battery has been replaced. Every time the problem occurs the Olds dealer says the problem is the magnet on the ignition switch, which is part of the security system.
