Local High Schools to Host Visiting Drums Along the Waterfront Drum Corps

 

Drums Along the Waterfront Tour of Champions is excited to bring the top eight drum corps in the world to Western New York. The event will be held from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, and all of the corps will be staying at local high schools as they prepare for the big event.

Exit 2 Bar & Grille will hold its first annual golf tournament to raise funds for the SPCA Serving Erie County on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Sheridan Park Golf Course in Tonawanda.

The tournament will feature a 10 a.m. shotgun start, contests and prizes on the course, lunch at the turn and a Southern BBQ cookout dinner with a three-hour call bar at Exit 2 following the event. 13th annual Mount St. Mary’s “River Run” set for June 20

Mount St. Mary’s Hospital will hold its 13th annual “River Run” on Saturday, June 20. The USATF sanctioned 5K Run/2 mile walk starts at 9 a.m.  The course starts and ends at the Red Brick School in the Village of Lewiston, with a main portion of the course following Lower River Road in Lewiston.

Buffalo Bills legends and Pro Football Hall of Famers Marv Levy and Andre Reed will participate in an autograph-signing session from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 31, at Bases Loaded Sports Collectibles, 794 French Road, Cheektowaga.

Levy coached the Buffalo Bills from 1986-97 and also served briefly as the team’s general manager in 2006-07. He entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001. Reed played wide receiver for Buffalo from 1985-99 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014.

The 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games will take place in Los Angeles, California, from July 25 through Aug. 2, 2015. This year, foreign participants have something new to look forward to: There will be no visa application fee or visa issuance fee required. In 2014, the State Department announced that the fees would be waived for both the 2014 Special Olympics Summer Games Invitational and this year’s main event. Consular posts worldwide have been authorized to issue multiple-entry "B-1/B-2" visitor visas to qualifying applicants.

Amherst Proclamation Recognizes Daemen Basketball Teams

The Town of Amherst Board has issued a proclamation in honor of the Daemen College men’s and women’s basketball teams, recognizing both teams’ victories in their respective United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division I National Championship tournaments. The proclamation was presented at the April 6 town board meeting.

The Daemen men’s team, led by tournament Most Valuable Player Gerald Beverly, entered this year's tournament as the top seed and went on to defeat No. 8 Indiana University-South Bend, No. 4 Concordia College (Ala.) and No. 3 Rochester College (Mich.) in Uniontown, Pa., to capture the program’s first-ever USCAA national title.

Sports Collectors Expo to Bring 18 Sports Legends to Batavia

 

Eighteen stars from the NFL, NHL and Major League Baseball are scheduled to appear from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Sports Collectors Expo. The event is set to take place at Batavia Downs Gaming, located at 8315 Park Road, Batavia.

Kicking off the autograph signings from 11 a.m. to noon will be baseball greats Luis Tiant, Chris Chambliss and Joe Hesketh, along with former NFL stars George Rogers and Larry Brown. From noon to 1 p.m. are NFL greats Marv Levy, Jack Youngblood, Tom Mack and Vince Ferragamo. Signing from 1 to 2 p.m. will be NFL legend Rocky Bleier.
