'Songs I Wish I Were Cast To Sing' Features NU Theatre Department Alumni

NIAGARA FALLS N.Y. -- Niagara University Theatre’s 2010 – 2011 season offers an exciting array of entertainment options to suit a variety of tastes. For those who enjoy Broadway show tunes, a special limited engagement cabaret is being featured this fall.

To benefit the theater program, on Friday, Nov. 12 and Saturday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m., the Friends of Niagara University Theatre will present a benefit cabaret production, “Songs I Wish I Were Cast To Sing,” with Broadway veteran Michele Ragusa, ’87 (“Young Frankenstein,” “Titanic,” “Adrift in Macao”), and  eight other multi-talented Niagara University theater studies alumni: David Autovino, ’03, Peter Bennett, ’03, Nicholas Cocchetto, ’09, Paschal Frisina III, ’00, Adriano Gatto, ’06, Kristin Nixon Frisina, ‘02, Carol Flanagan Propp, ’87, and Paul Todaro, ’87. Like Ms. Ragusa, many of these alumni have appeared in musicals, dramas and comedies in Western New York theaters and across the country.

First Ever 'Niagara4U' Familiarization Tour Set for Saturday

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y.– Niagara University, in conjunction with Niagara Rises and the Niagara Tourism & Convention Corporation (NTCC), is offering incoming and transfer students the opportunity to participate in the first ever Niagara4U Tour on September 18, 2010. 

The five-hour familiarization tour will take students to several prominent locations throughout western Niagara County, including the New York Power Authority, Goat Island and the Maid of the Mist, and feature greetings from Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster and Village of Lewiston Mayor Terry Collesano.

Niagara University students are able to sign up for the tour at the university’s campus activities office.

NU Live Music Series Line-Up Announced

Niagara University opens its 2010-2011 Live Music Series with four great shows.  All shows are held from 8 to 11 p.m. in the “Under the Taps” club in the Lower Level Gallagher Center. Admission is $5 at the door, and includes free pizza. Refreshments are also available. The community is welcome.

First up is Son of the Sun, with special guest Robots Are Thieves, on September 17. Band mates and friends Joseph Stocker (guitar, keyboards) and Zak Ward (lead vocals, guitar) released their first full-length album, The Happy Loss, in June.

Catholic School Teachers Go Back to School

With the start of the new school year less than two weeks away, Catholic elementary school teachers are not only busy preparing their classrooms, they are engaged in professional development as well.

During the week of August 17, the diocesan Department of Catholic Schools hosted a number of workshops, ranging from brain-based learning to using learning centers in the classroom.

The sessions included:  Brain Based Learning: Procedures and strategies to address all learners; Using Learning Centers in the Primary Classroom; a Practical Guide to Design and Manage Learning Centers.

Spots Still Available at NCCC Fall Orientation

SANBORN, N.Y. – A limited number of seats are still available for Niagara County Community College’s New Student Orientation scheduled for August 5, 2010. First-year students, re-admitted students and transfer students who have already registered for 2010 fall semester classes are encouraged to attend.

Reservations for the August 5th orientation session are accepted on line at www.niagaracc.suny.edu/orientation.
