Niagara Wheatfield Continuing Ed Offers Night of Polish Cooking

Chef Remy Orlowski will be presenting a night of cooking authentic Polish dishes as part of the Niagara Wheatfield Continuing Education Department.  The course is held on March 20th just in time for the Easter holiday and Ms. Orlowski will be sharing authentic Polish recipes taught her by her grandmother whose family was from Poland.  “My great grandparents came from Poland and my grandmother Babci taught me lots of cooking from scratch as I grew up with traditional recipes.”

Easter is very important in Polish culture and food plays a main role in it.  “I remember taking the basket of food to church as a kid with my grandmother to get blessed for Easter.  Placek is the traditional sweet bread of Easter.  Unfortunately not many people know how to make this in particular.”  She will also be cooking fruit soup with the class.  “Soup is a mainstay of the Polish diet.  I always joke that Polish people will make soup out of anything on hand.  The fruit soup is absolutely delicious.”  She will also be showing the class how to make Polish Sausage and Golabki (Cabbage Rolls).  “Fresh sausage is not as difficult to make as people might think.  The Golabki have always been a favorite of mine.  They are definitely a Polish comfort food.”

Ms. Orlowski encourages everyone who attends to bring their appetite because they will be enjoying their culinary creations at the end of class.

The class will be held March 20th at the Edward Town Middle School at 2292 Saunders Settlement Road in Sanborn at 6:00-8:30PM.  Pre-registration is required for this program.   For more information you can go to the Niagara Wheatfield CSD web site at www.nwcsd.k12.org under Adult Education or call Anita Muzzi at 215-3109.
