Unfortunately, this highly stressful scenario is not uncommon, and it will likely happen to every one of us at some point during our lives. Not only are you faced with selling a house, but the entire contents of the house as well.

As the Buffalo Niagara Partnership marks the 20th anniversary of its 1993 formation, we’re catching up with former Partnership board chairs to get their thoughts on the organization’s role in Buffalo Niagara’s evolving economy.   Today, we’re sitting down with Mark Hamister, who served as Partnership board chair from 2001-2003.  This is the second part in our series which will run throughout 2013.

Final steel beam set in place for $53 million project

As leaders from the Seneca Nation of Indians, Seneca Gaming Corporation and the local construction trades looked on, construction workers set the final steel beam into place for the new hotel tower at Seneca Allegany Casino & Hotel this morning. The occasion marked an important milestone in the construction of the property’s latest expansion.

Seneca Allegany Casino & Hotel announced plans in August to build a new hotel tower at the popular resort located in New York’s Southern Tier. Construction began at the end of 2011 and has progressed according to schedule. Officials expect the new tower to open in the winter.

Brush Up Buffalo’s 15th Event to Take Place in Buffalo Promise Neighborhood

Buffalo, NY – Brush Up Buffalo, a not-for-profit, all-volunteer organization focused on revitalizing City of Buffalo neighborhoods, recently announced that it will repaint 15 low-income homes with the help of 400 volunteers in the nationally-designated Buffalo Promise Neighborhood on Saturday, September 10, 2011.

Designated avenues and streets for Brush Up Buffalo 2011 – Westminster, East Amherst, Stockbridge and Berkshire – are in a relatively tight cluster and are near Westminster Community Charter School, where Brush Up Buffalo will set up operations for check-in and lunch.  (Parking will be at the Erie County Medical Center parking lot, with shuttles to the school.)  At least 25 volunteers will be needed to paint on each house; no prior painting experience is necessary.

This year the Niagara Falls Memorial day parade will be held: Saturday May 28,2011. The Parade will assemble 10am at the city market (19th Street and Pine Avenue)

The parade will step off 11am sharp and will proceed east up Pine Avenue towards Hyde Park Blvd. The parade will end Hyde Park Grounds) at Pine Avenue and Robbins Drive.

A Veterans Ceremony will be held immediately at the parade end on the site of the new Veterans Memorial to be constructed. A full status report of phase 1 of the Veterans Memorial will announced. Niagara County IDA Approves First-Ever Project Through Opportunity Zone Program

Board also accepts application for assistance for construction of a new facility in Wheatfield and significant expansion to facility in North Tonawanda

The Niagara County Industrial Development Agency (NCIDA) Board of Directors today induced the application of assistance from the Greater Lockport Development Corporation (GLDC) for renovations to 57 Canal Street in the historic locks district in downtown Lockport.  The building is owned by the city of Lockport and leased to the GLDC.  The induced application for the GLDC is for a five-year PILOT is the first ever application through the Niagara County Opportunity Zone Program, which was created by the NCIDA to provide financial incentives in the form of tax abatements to commercial, retail and tourism based businesses to encourage reinvestment to rebuild urban centers in Niagara County.
