The Old Fort Niagara Association and Niagara University have partnered on a creative project to produce 18th century men’s waistcoats, which theatre department students are sewing and donating to the fort’s fife and drum corps.

WNY Land Conservancy Awarded $70,000 from NYS Environmental Protection Fund Grants

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced $1.8 million in Conservation Partnership Program grants for 55 nonprofit land trusts across the state. Representatives of the DEC and the Land Trust Alliance unveiled the grantees at an event in Skaneateles, in Onondaga County, in recognition of Earth Week, a weeklong celebration of New York's commitment to protecting our environment, conserving open space, and increasing access to the state's vast and magnificent natural resources. The grants are funded through NYS’s Environmental Protection Fund (EPF), and the Land Trust Alliance administers the Conservation Partnership Program in coordination with DEC.

East Hill Foundation Contributes $65,000 Toward the Protection of the Stella Niagara Preserve

 

The East Hill Foundation, located in North Tonawanda and focused on enhancing the quality of life of the residents of Western New York, has generously contributed $65,000 to the Western New York Land Conservancy for the creation of the Stella Niagara Preserve. This donation helped the Land Conservancy reach its $3.27 million fundraising goal, which enabled the Land Conservancy to purchase the 29-acre preserve property on the Niagara River in the Town of Lewiston.

The American Diabetes Association has announced a brand new location—downtown Niagara Falls, NY—for the site of its 2015 Tour de Cure® cycling event in support of the Stop Diabetes® movement. To celebrate this venue change announcement, ADA representatives and rider team captains were joined by corporate sponsors from Independent Health, Seneca Gaming Corporation, and General Motors for an off-season “training” session on the Ice Bikes of Buffalo at Canalside.

Stella Niagara Preserve Receives $50,000 Grant from Houston-based Gallogly Family Foundation

 

The Western New York Land Conservancy was recently awarded $50,000 from the Gallogly Family Foundation to help create the Stella Niagara Preserve, a new, publicly accessible nature preserve along the Niagara River in Lewiston, N.Y. The Land Conservancy has now received more than $2.7 million of the more than $3.2 million needed to create the Stella Niagara Preserve. Additional donations from the community are needed soon if the Stella Niagara Preserve is to become a reality.

The Western New York Land Conservancy has been awarded $300,000 to help create the Stella Niagara Preserve on the Niagara River in Lewiston. The grant is from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Great Lakes Restoration Initiative through the Joint Venture Habitat Protection and Restoration Program. The Land Conservancy has now received more than $2.6 million of the $3.2 million needed to create the preserve.

Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel Welcomes Iconic Budweiser Clydesdales on May 25

The world-famous “gentle giants” will make an appearance in Niagara Falls this Memorial Day weekend. The eight Budweiser® Clydesdales, complete with a hitch, carriage and Dalmatian dog, will be available for public viewing and photos outside Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 25.

Prime opportunities for viewing will take place around Seneca Square, the recently re-landscaped area between 3rd and 4th Streets in front of the casino to the west. The horses will arrive on Duggan Drive, the north side of Seneca Square.
