Western New York: First Annual Day of Caring For Pets

For the first time, Western New York is coming together in a massive way during the holidays to assist those who are already doing above and beyond to help our animals. Below are the shelters that have submitted their info to WNY Lost & Found Pets. If you wish to support, just contact the shelter directly and if you are a shelter in need, contact WNY Lost & Found Pets.

The Facebook Event Page is HERE

All of the shelters in need are below in the order they responded for our help. If you are unable to donate items or time, monetary donations are always accepted yet not required. Please contact the rescue you want to work with and spread some hope during this season!

Get Out and Get Active With Your Dog

Get Out and Get Active With Your Dog

(Welcome to our pet column, courtesy of Pet Connection Programs Inc. of Marilla. We post a new article each week, so be sure to check back on a regular basis!)

Dog owners who are active with their pets often enjoy enhanced health benefits, including lower blood pressure and stress, thanks to the increased physical activity and time spent with their canine companions.

According to Dr. Brian Zanghi, research nutritionist at Nestlé Purina Pet Care, dogs should get an average of one hour of physical activity each day, more than twice the minimum recommended time for humans by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Senator Grisanti Continues Push for Stronger Animal Cruelty Laws by Urging Governor to Sign Bill Tha

Senator Mark Grisanti (R, I – Buffalo) today has renewed his call for a crack down on puppy mills by urging Governor Cuomo to sign into law Bill S.3753, which would allow forward-thinking local governments to regulate commercial pet breeders and pet stores.

The legislation addresses the ineffectiveness of New York’s “Pet Dealer” law, the proliferation of unregulated dog breeders in the state and the pet industry’s complicit support of inherently cruel, out-of-state puppy mills.

“New York State appears to be the only home-rule state in the country that explicitly prohibits its towns and cities from regulating commercial pet breeders and pet stores,” Grisanti said, backed by area leaders in the fight against pet abuse. ”I am calling on the Governor to pass this piece of legislation so that New York can effectively regulate puppy mills, and put an end to abusive breeding techniques.”

Niagara County SPCA Holds Walk In Memory Of Deceased Dog Owner

Niagara Falls, NY - On Saturday, the Niagara County SPCA held a special walk to remember a man who tragically passed away while spending time with some of his dearest friends.

On Feburary 15 of last year Pascal Scrufari was walking with his three golden retrievers in Hyde Park when one of the dogs ran out onto the ice and slipped through.  Scrufari attempted to rescue his dog and sadly drowned.  Responding firefighters were able to save all of the dogs, and subsequently one of them adopted all three.  That firefighter, Frank Cacciatore, led the walk along with 2 On Your Side's Adam Benigni.
