Exit 2 Bar & Grille Plans SPCA Benefit, Paint Night and More

A Chili/Chowder/Soup Cook-off to benefit the SPCA and a fun-filled Paint Night are just two of the exciting things happening at Exit 2 Bar & Grille, located at 3191 Eggert Road in Tonawanda.

The second annual cook-off, from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 13, hopes to build on the success of last year’s event which raised more than $3,000 for the SPCA. Joining the fun this year will be WNY Heroes, Inc., a local organization that helps soldiers through innovative programs such as Pawsitive For Heroes, an initiative that matches service or therapy dogs with local veterans.

Dog Ears Event to Benefit Feral Cat Program

A book-signing event with the author and illustrator of “Feral Cat Stories: From Rescue to Love,” will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Dog Ears Bookstore & Café, 688 Abbott Road, Buffalo.

The book is an entertaining and inspiring collection of Western New York feral cat rescue stories from participants of the spay/neuter programs of Feral Cat FOCUS. Local author Susan Sellingsloh captures the struggles and joys of people who encounter feral cats and decide to help. The stories show not only the transformation of rescue into love but the efficacy of Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) programs. All proceeds benefit Feral Cat FOCUS of Western New York.

Bringing Pets Into the United States Requires Careful Planning

Bringing Pets Into the United States Requires Careful Planning

Relocating to the United States requires a lot of time and attention to detail. Obtaining visas, work permits, securing housing and transportation — in addition to packing and making travel arrangements — can be overwhelming. While many people understand that four-legged friends are often considered to be members of the family, bringing the family pets to the United States also requires a lot of planning and effort.

Avoid Dangerous and Expensive Pet Injuries this Winter

Avoid Dangerous and Expensive Pet Injuries this Winter

Laura's Critter Care, LLC share tips to prevent common weather-related pet injuries.

Winter can be harsh on pets - especially small animals and smooth-coated breeds. Pets need special attention during the winter months.

Lesions on legs from stepping in snow holes, cuts on paws from walking on ice and illnesses from ingesting toxic chemicals are all typical winter-related pet-injuries. These are injuries that can be avoided if pet owners and caregivers are conscientious.

When possible, Laura's Critter Care, LLC urges pet owners and pet-care providers to consider the following preventive measures for maximum health and safety for their pets this winter:

  • Keep all young, old and short-haired pets inside. These types of pets are more vulnerable to cold weather and should not be left outside for long and without supervision.
