NU Alumna Credits Undergraduate Training for Life-Saving Actions in Monroe County

On May 5, Samantha Elliott, while working the overnight shift as a night auditor at the Renaissance Del Monte Lodge Hotel & Spa in Pittsford, N.Y., responded to the room of a guest who had suffered an apparent heart attack. Upon her arrival, she took immediate and lifesaving actions by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, until she was relieved by responding personnel.

Seneca Casinos recently unveiled the Fall 2013 issue of Seneca Today, a magazine dedicated to spreading the word about all that is exciting, new and interesting about the three Seneca Casino locations, as well as news on the Seneca Nation of Indians and tourism locations in Western New York. Issues are primarily distributed throughout Seneca Casinos’ 1,000 hotel rooms in its two resort properties, as well as select locations across Western New York and Southern Ontario.

They are The Band Perry, and their mission is clear.

“It’s about marching forward and making noise,” Reid Perry says.

It is, as The Band Perry sings, taking inspiration and the spirit of those who came before, and spreading the message – in this case, country music – to the world.

It is, as Kimberly Perry says, “about being country music evangelists and ambassadors, and really trying to plant that flag of modern-day country.”

Wikipedia describes pioneers as people in American history who traveled to settle and develop new areas. They worked long, hard hours and journeyed great distances to reach unexplored territory.

Similarly, The Band Perry has restlessly traversed the country in search of new places to spread their music, country music, to those who’d never give it a second thought.

Niagara County Early Child Care Quality Improvement Project To Award Certificates To Third Cohort

Tonight, a third cohort of 10 child care centers will become Niagara QIP ambassador centers.

The Niagara County-based child care centers have completed an initial year of “active engagement,” which will culminate with a certification ceremony tonight at 6 p.m. in Bisgrove Hall, Room 350.

During that event, 36 child care directors and staff from the following child care centers will receive certificates of completion:
