New Daemen Partnership Opens Doors for Colombian Students

Graduate-level students in Colombia will have the unique opportunity to earn a master’s degree in global business from both Daemen College and Ceipa University in Sabaneta through a new academic partnership between the two institutions.

A Memorandum of Agreement for this international collaboration, which is the first of its kind Daemen has established with a Colombian university, was formally signed June 5 by Dr. Michael Brogan, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college, who represented Daemen President Gary A. Olson, and Diego Mauricio Mazo Cuervo, dean of Ceipa University.

A player from Western New York won a progressive jackpot of $712,784 on Sunday, May 11 on an International Game Technology (IGT) MegaJackpots® Wheel of Fortune® Double Diamond® dollar slot machine. The lucky pull occurred at 5:29 p.m. just outside STIR, the casino’s new high-energy feature bar and lounge.

 

The player, identified as Frank C. of Kenmore, N.Y., placed a maximum bet of $3 and hit three Wheel of Fortune symbols on the payout line. The large progressive amount is linked to games at multiple Native American-owned casinos in the Northeast region.

Niagara University, Niagara Catholic, Buffalo Diocese Sign Memorandum Of Understanding

Niagara University, Niagara Catholic and the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo held a signing ceremony today to enter into a formal memorandum of understanding.

The MOU was signed by the Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., president of Niagara University; Judith Nolan Powell, chair of the Niagara Catholic board of trustees; and the Most Rev. Richard J. Malone, bishop of Buffalo. The signing took place in Bisgrove Hall on the Niagara University campus.

NU Commencement Honorees Include Two Pulitzer Winners, Hospitality Leader

A pair of Pulitzer Prize-winning reporters and a hospitality magnate will address Niagara University graduates during commencement ceremonies taking place in the Gallagher Center on May 8 and 10, 2014.

Niagara University will hold three commencement events this week – two for undergraduates – as well as a special liturgy and ROTC commissioning, all of which will take place on the upper level of the Gallagher Center. Admission will be granted to ticketed guests only.

Appeal Week 2014 Culminates with $8.88 Million Raised for  90th Annual Catholic Charities Appeal

BUFFALO, N.Y., April 15, 2014 – The Most Reverend Richard J. Malone, bishop of the Diocese of Buffalo, provided his second report on the progress of the annual Catholic Charities of Buffalo Appeal today, revealing $8,886,816.65 has been raised to date, as Catholic Charities officials marked the close of Appeal Week 2014.

Today’s total represents 82.3 percent of the final goal, which is trending slightly ahead of last year at this time when 80.2 percent of goal was reached. Funds raised for Appeal 2014 support Catholic Charities’ 70 programs and services offered across 61 sites throughout the eight-county region. The annual campaign runs through June 30 and carries a goal of $10.8 million.

During Appeal Week, which ran from April 6-13, parish volunteers and pastors across Western New York led a concerted effort to gather donations, and participated in fundraising activities in order to bring the Appeal closer to its final goal.
