Lewiston GardenFest set for June 18 & 19

Lewiston GardenFest presented by the Lewiston Garden Club is set for Saturday, June 18 and Sunday June 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Located along Center Street, the festival includes approximately 60 vendors selling flowers, plants, garden art and more along with demonstrations from gardening professionals. A free garden walk highlights gardens of local Lewiston residents and festivalgoers can showcase their own gardening skills in a container garden contest.

“Lewiston Garden Club is excited to host our 11th annual Lewiston GardenFest, offering something for gardeners of all skill levels,” said Doreen Albee, Lewiston GardenFest chair. “It’s an event that both showcases and supports Lewiston’s ongoing beautification efforts, while offering creative ideas to beautify your own outdoor spaces.”

Olear Team Plans Informational Seminars for Older Adults and Caregivers

Michael Olear, a licensed real estate broker and member of the Olear Team at MJ Peterson, will present two educational seminars at Crestmount Senior Apartments, 285 Crestmount Ave., Tonawanda, in May and June.

The seminars are open to the community and focus on real estate topics relevant to older adults and their loved ones and caregivers, including right-sizing and simplifying a living situation, legal and regulatory issues to be aware of, and available resources and tools related to these matters.

June 11 at 11 a.m.

Elmwood Village Farmers Market to Welcome 18th Season on Saturday, May 7

Several new vendors, talented local entertainers, community group informational tables, three KidBiz appearances and two Wellness Lanes will highlight a fun-filled 2016 season at the Elmwood Village Farmers Market. The selling season kicks off on Saturday, May 7, and runs through Saturday, Nov. 26. Hours at the open-air venue in Buffalo’s historic Elmwood Village are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine. 

The market will once again start the season on the east side of Elmwood Avenue for the first four to six weeks before moving across the street to its usual location on the west side of Elmwood Avenue. This has become an annual practice for the purpose of grass recovery.

Lewiston GardenFest now accepting applications for vendors & open garden participants

The Lewiston Garden Club is thinking spring with preparations now underway for its 11th annual Lewiston GardenFest on Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19 along Center Street in Lewiston. Applications for both vendors and for local residents interested in showcasing their gardens are now being accepted for Lewiston GardenFest, which is also part of Garden Walk Buffalo Niagara.

“From offering different beautification ideas to getting expert advice or picking up new plants, Lewiston GardenFest offers a garden-filled weekend for enthusiasts of all skill levels,” said Doreen Albee, chair, Lewiston GardenFest. “We encourage both past and new vendors alike to apply again for this year to help us fill Center Street with everything needed for one’s garden or landscape. Lewiston residents interested in showcasing the fruits of their gardening labors should also consider applying to be part of our open gardens.”

Elmwood Village Farmers Market Announces Annual Poster Competition

The Elmwood Village Farmers Market will hold its sixth annual poster contest to promote the outdoor market’s upcoming 2016 season. Entries for the poster competition are due by 5 p.m. Friday, April 1. Whether you’re a student studying the arts, a professional graphic designer or just someone with a creative streak, you’re invited to submit your design for an 11x17-inch color poster that accurately reflects the feel of the Elmwood Village Farmers Market, sponsored by the Elmwood Village Association.

Elmwood Village Winter Market at Buffalo State Continues on February 27

The new Elmwood Village Winter Market at Buffalo State, an indoor version of the popular Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, continues from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27. The market takes place in Buckham Hall on the campus of SUNY Buffalo State, 1300 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo. The 20-week winter market will run through April 30.

In addition to hosting nearly 20 quality vendors, several food trucks are also scheduled to join the market this Saturday. Rob Falgiano will provide musical entertainment from approximately 10:30 a.m. to noon, while Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village will occupy the community table.

Buckham Hall is located on Rockwell Road near Grant Street. Free parking is available on campus during market hours, and Lot R-13 is recommended for convenience.
