Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village Readies for Scottish Festival, Antique Radio Swap Meet

An Antique Radio Swap Meet and the highly anticipated Buffalo Niagara Scottish Festival featuring the 2016 Masters World Championship Highland Games highlight the August calendar at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village, 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road, Amherst.

The Niagara Frontier Wireless Association will hold its annual Antique Radio Swap Meet from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 6. Radios dating from the 1920s through the 1960s will be offered for sale along with a wide selection of vintage electronics, tube amps, phonographs, speakers, advertising and assorted parts. The Swap Meet will be held outdoors in the main parking lot, and admission to the event is free. Admission to Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village is additional and available during open business hours from noon to 4:30 p.m.

Drums Along the Waterfront Tour of Champions to Invade Ralph Wilson Stadium

The annual Drums Along the Waterfront - Tour of Champions, Western New York’s premier “music in motion” event featuring seven of the top drum corps in the world, returns to Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7.

Sanctioned by Drum Corps International (DCI), Drums Along the Waterfront - Tour of Champions will feature the reigning and 17-time world champion Blue Devils (Concord, CA), along with the Bluecoats (Canton, OH), The Cadets (Allentown, PA), Carolina Crown (Fort Mill, SC), The Cavaliers (Rosemont, IL), Phantom Regiment (Rockford, IL) and Boston Crusaders (Boston, MA). The lineup has 38 DCI titles among them!

NU Formalizes Partnerships With Niagara Falls, Lew-Port School Districts

A memorandum of understanding signed today formalized longstanding partnerships between Niagara University and the Niagara Falls and Lewiston-Porter school districts.

Dr. Timothy Ireland, NU’s interim provost, signed the MOUs with Mark R. Laurrie and Paul J. Casseri, the superintendents for the Niagara Falls and Lew-Port school districts, respectively.

Two Popular Programs Return to Elmwood Village Farmers Market on July 2

The popular Elmwood Village Farmers Market, featuring nearly 40 vendors selling fresh, seasonal and local produce and products, continues on Saturday, July 2. Hours at the open-air market, a program of the Elmwood Village Association, are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, rain or shine, through November. 

Two very popular programs — “Double Up Food Bucks” and “Just Say Yes to Fruits and Vegetables” — return to the market this Saturday!

CrossFit Event to Benefit Hope House Shelter

CrossFit Nickel City (CFNC), 247 Virginia St., Buffalo, is hosting an in-house individual CrossFit competition at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 16, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Hope House Shelter for Women & Children.

The Matt Urban Hope Center is a community-focused agency based on the East Side of Buffalo. Its mission is to revitalize neighborhoods, serve families and change lives by offering a full array of services and support to the community. This is accomplished through job training, housing assistance, financial planning and more. Each week over 300 people are assisted through the Center and over 250 families are served through the Hope House emergency shelter. Last year the organization helped 110 street homeless individuals secure housing and provided 88 permanent supportive housing units to the chronically homeless.

Guests who enjoy outdoor dining will love Exit 2’s brand new patio, with interactive games such as Jenga and a bean bag toss adding to an already fun and entertaining atmosphere. Executive Chef Christopher Schork has been busy creating a new summer menu that rolls out on June 20 featuring several fresh seafood offerings, including fresh clams every Monday and Thursday night, and lighter fare. Guests who stop by for “Super Saturday” will enjoy drink and $2 jumbo hot dog specials at the bar or on the patio from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
