Elmwood Village Winter Market at Buffalo State to Return on December 3

The Elmwood Village Winter Market at Buffalo State, an indoor version of the popular Elmwood Village Farmers Market, will return to Buckham Hall on the campus of SUNY Buffalo State, 1300 Elmwood Ave., on Saturday, Dec. 3. The market will run from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays through mid April 2017.

In addition to hosting nearly 20 quality vendors, entertainment will be offered from approximately 10 to 11:30 a.m., and one community group will be invited to host an informational table each week. One group or organization from Buffalo State will also host a weekly informational table, and the market will be equipped to accept EBT customers as well.

Celebrate the Christmas Season with Special Events at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village

From celebrating a Victorian Christmas to dining with Santa to enjoying a holiday tea with loved ones, Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village invites you to participate in their exciting events planned for the month of December.

Enjoy a menu full of Victorian Christmas recipes at the second annual “Taste of Christmas Past” from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3. The evening’s program includes:
• Music by Dan Wilke, organ grinder, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
• 45-minute guided lantern tours of the village with one of BNHV’s costumed villagers (includes grounds and exterior of building) at 6:15 and 7:15 p.m.
• Music by the Hutchinson Family Revival from 7 to 9 p.m.
• Live auction at 8 p.m.
• Tree lighting ceremony and caroling on the historic bandstand at 8:15 p.m.
• Remaining auctions and raffles after tree lighting ceremony

Explore Buffalo and Palace Theatre to Offer Lockport Tour of Homes

The Historic Palace Theatre in Lockport and Explore Buffalo are teaming up again to offer a great tour of homes to kick off the holiday season! Participants will enjoy touring 10 historic locations in the City of Lockport from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19.

Starting at the Kenan Center Arena, guests will pick up their tour book containing histories of the buildings and a map with the locations of the homes. Carolers from the Palace Theatre’s production of Scrooge will be at the homes, adding to the holiday atmosphere. 

This tour is self-guided from home to home, with docents in each home. You can visit the homes at your own pace and in whatever order you choose. A map of home locations will be provided at the tour’s starting location inside the Kenan Center Arena (behind the Kenan Arts Center), 433 Locust St.

ROC Receives Grant to Enhance ‘Especially for Kids’ Program

The Rural Outreach Center (ROC) is pleased to announced that it has been awarded a $3,500 grant from Ronald McDonald House Charities of WNY, Inc. to enhance the organization’s “Especially for Kids” program. The grant will be used to purchase therapy supplies, backpacks, school supplies and winter coat gift certificates.

Located at 730 Olean Road in East Aurora, the mission of the Rural Outreach Center is to assist, empower and elevate the impoverished rural population in southern Erie County and surrounding areas. In January, the ROC will launch its ROC Resolutions campaign to shine a spotlight on rural poverty in Western New York. Several well-known members of the local business and sports communities — including co-chairs Steve and Sarah Tasker — will assist in promoting areas of concern for those living in poverty, such as nutrition, utilities, transportation and clothing.

‘Bites Around Buffalo’ Coloring Book Highlights WNY’s Famous Cuisine

Mitchell Grosofsky, who earlier this year released the popular “Welcome to Buffalo” adult coloring book featuring his artistic renditions of Buffalo’s famous architectural and historical landmarks, is at it again! Grosofsky recently released “Bites Around Buffalo,” an adult coloring book highlighting Buffalo’s classic cuisine and famous food establishments. 

Additionally, Grosofsky will take part in a book-signing event from noon to 2 p.m. on Nov. 26, Small Business Saturday, at The Buffalo History Museum, One Museum Court, Buffalo. Designed for shoppers looking for personalized gifts this holiday season, the event will feature a meet-and-greet with more than 65 local authors! Museum admission is free during event hours.
