Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market Opens for Season on May 10

The popular Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, featuring nearly 40 vendors selling fresh, seasonal and local produce and products, will kick off its 15th season from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10! A program of the Elmwood Village Association, the market will be held every Saturday, rain or shine, through Nov. 29.

Providing musical entertainment on May 10 (weather permitting) will be Don Z. from 9:30 to 11 a.m., followed by the Buffalo Urban Music Project from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The market also welcomes two community groups this Saturday, including the D'Youville College School of Pharmacy and Tutor Doctor.

Also on Saturday, a young juggler will join us at 11 a.m. to entertain guests with his juggling skills. Zachary hopes to raise some money to benefit Roswell Park Cancer Institute, in memory of his grandfather. Later this month, both Zachary and his mom will also go Bald for Bucks. A strong showing of community support for his efforts would be greatly appreciated!

At 10 a.m. Saturday, the market will honor Jasmine Fiscus, winner of our annual poster competition.

New vendors for 2014 include Biscotti for Everybotti, BreadHive Worker Cooperative Bakery and Kwilos Farm. Additionally, this Saturday and on the second Saturday of each month (weather permitting), Private Knives Catering of Lancaster will be at the market making breakfast and lunch offerings using only market products and produce. Offering wine tastings at the market this week will be Niagara Landing Wine Cellar.

The Electronic Benefit Transfer system is once again in place at the market for the 2014 season. EBT incentive programs are often offered throughout the season; please inquire at the EBT table for more information. Elmwood-Bidwell’s EBT program is made possible thanks to generous grants from the Erie-Niagara Tobacco-Free Coalition, Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo and the Lexington Co-operative Market. Additionally, the market is once again partnering with the Erie-Niagara Tobacco-Free Coalition to promote a smoke-free environment.
