First Class Bass Charters Fishing Report: Eastern Basin Lake Erie

First Class Bass Charters Fishing Report: Eastern Basin Lake Erie

Water Temp: 74 degrees

Labor Day weekend will be the start of fall fishing for many anglers.

SMALLMOUTH bass action has been good some days and better on other days.  Tube jigs and dropshotting plastic baits have been a hot method for catching bigger fish.  Waverly shoals has been a great area to start looking for good smallmouth.  The deep water in front of the Round House has seen a lot of boat activity. Seneca Shoals had some good fish being caught on top of the shoal in 15' to 18' of water.

WALLEYE fishing was a little spottie over the last week.  The deep end of Meyers Reef was holding some nice schools of fish. Also, Seneca shoals on the west side saw a lot of fishermen trolling for walleye.

As for PERCH there is not a lot to say this week.  The fishing for perch is only going to get better as the water temperature drops.

Water Temp: 75 degrees

Lake Erie fishing has been steady over the last three weeks.  The cooler nights should make the fishing better as the season moves along.

SMALLMOUTH bass action this past week was as good as it has been all year.  The head of the River from the Round House to the Old Pier on the Canadian side is still holding nice fish.  Seneca Soals and the deep end of Meyers Reef (in 40 feet plus water) has seen a number of fish over 5 lbs being caught.  Poor Boy's Baits' ( tube jigs)  in colors jc watermelon or mango magic are hard to beat on a 1/4 oz or 3/8 oz jig head.  Fish these baits on a medium to medium heavy open face spinning outfit with 8 lb test line.  Cast the tube bait down drift or away from the boat using the rod tip to move the bait.  Pick up the slack of the line with the reel as you work the jig all the way back to the boat.

Water Temp: 75 degrees

The SMALLMOUTH BASS action is in full swing.  Good fishing can be had all over the lake.  Deep water or current at the head  of the river is certainly key for fishing success.

Waverly Shoal's on the Canadian side, in water 25 feet to 32 feet, has been good for numbers of fish. The Round House area to the EU2 buoy has also been a good place to start your bass fishing.

Try fishing a crawfish on a 3 way rig with a 3 ft leader to a Mustad Red Demon Circle hook, size 1x fine wire.  The key is to use just enough weight (sinker) to get the crawfish to look natural as you drift over fish-holding structure.

Water Temp: 77 degrees.

Water temperature is getting  hot and water clearness is down to 25 feet in parts of the lake. The fish are either moving deep or to the current in the head of the river.

SMALLMOUTH BASS action has been steady. The Round House area has been a great place to start. Try drifting both sides of the Round House. The smallmouth like to lie in the current breaks behind the structure. The deep side of Seneca Shoal has had some great fish being caught.

WALLEYE fishing slowed right down with the hot weather. The suspended walleye schools have moved toward the deeper water. The Emerald Channel has seen some nice walleye being caught in the morning. The New York and the Canadian border line have been great areas for big walleye.

Summertime patterns are starting to kick in.

SMALL MOUTH BASS action has been very good.  The deep water bites are starting to pick up.  Try drop shotting a Poor Boy's Erie Darter (mango-magic), about 24" off the bottom.  Shake the tip of your fishing rod to make the bait dance and dart along. Seneca Shoals has been reall hot for big bass. The Round House is starting to load up with good Smallies.

WALLEYE fishing has been real good.  There are lots of fish along the NY and Canadian border (line).  The Emerald Channel is starting to pick up for the walleye.  South Gap is still producing smaller fish.

PERCH bite is steady. There are good fish from Departure bouy to Meyers Reef.  Good electronics make all the difference. It's hard to beat one of the new Lowrance electronic-GM HD's with structure scan looking for pod's of fish.

WATER TEMP: 69 degrees. It's time to fish deep as the water temperature heats up.

SMALL MOUTH BASS: Action is as hot as it's been all year.  Small mouth bass can still be caught in the Buffalo Harbor.  The key to fishing the Harbor is dealing with all the weeds. Try throwing a Boo Ya  chartreuse 3/8 oz spinner bait with chartreuse willow blades ove the top of the weeds.

MEYER'S REEFand SENECA SHOALS have been producing some real big small mouth -- 5 lbs plus. Try dragging a Yum tube jig in green pumpkin in 25 foot to 35 foot of water.

WALLEYE fishing has been ok.  Lots of small fish around the harbor.  Seneca shoals has been a good place to look for bigger fish.

PERCH FISHING looks promising. Good pods of fish showing up from the departure buoy to Meyer's Reef.  Bigger bait, bigger fish.
