Cross Border Partnership Leads to "Largest Seizure of Cocaine in District's History"

BUFFALO, N.Y. – U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that Parminder Sidhu, 39, of Brampton, Ontario, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to export from the United States five kilograms or more of cocaine before Chief U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny. The charge carries a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, a maximum of life, a $10,000,000 fine or both.

 

“This case stands for more than the largest seizure of cocaine in this District’s history,” said U.S. Attorney Hochul. “Of equal importance, this prosecution demonstrates that American and Canadian law enforcement partners can work seamlessly together to protect the citizens of both countries. For while it may have be true that crime knows no borders, now criminals should realize that our ability to apprehend them also has no geographic limitations.”

Gambia Male Convicted of Misuse of a Passport and Aggravated ID Theft

BUFFALO, N.Y. – U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr., announced today that Bakusa Dukaray, 38, of Gambia, pleaded guilty to misuse of passport and aggravated identity theft before U.S. District Chief Judge William M. Skretny. The misuse of passport charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both. The aggravated identity theft charge carries a mandatory two year consecutive sentence to the misuse of passport charge.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie P. Grisanti, who is handling the case, stated that on May 5, 2013, Dukaray attempted to enter the U.S. at the Lewiston Bridge Port of Entry in Lewiston, N.Y. At that time, the defendant presented a Canadian passport issued to his friend.  

The conviction is the result of an investigation on the part of Enforcement Officers of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection under the direction of Randy Howe, Acting Director of Field Operations.

Sheriff Voutour announces Newfane Bank of America Robbery Arrest

Lockport, NY - Sheriff James R. Voutour has announced the arrest of James Marquette Williams, age 31 of Lockport, New York.  Williams was arrested in connection with a bank robbery which occurred on January 2, 2013 at the Bank of America branch located in the Hamlet of Newfane. During the robbery Williams attempted to disguise his appearance by wearing sunglasses and placing white tape on his face.  He entered the bank at approximately 12:30PM and showed a note to the teller.  Williams left the bank with a then undetermined amount of cash.

ICE/DHSI: Canadian Truck Driver Sentenced for Importing about 147,000 Pills containing Ecstasy

 BUFFALO, N.Y.-- U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announces  that Osborne Young, 47, of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, was convicted following a jury trial before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara of importing approximately 147,000 pills containing Benzylpiperazine, commonly referred to as Ecstasy, into the United States from Canada. This was one of the largest seizures ever of illegal pills at the border. The charge carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison, a fine of $1,000,000, or both.

Grand Jury hands down Indictment against Barker Man; Conspiracy, Possession

     BUFFALO, N.Y.--U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that a grand jury has handed down a four count indictment charging Allen M. Young, 37, of Barker, N.Y., with possession with intent to distribute and distribution of methylone, a Schedule I controlled substance, conspiracy, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, a fine of $1,000,000, or both.

Chinese Nationals Sentenced after Prosecutors Lace Up a Conviction on Counterfeit Sneaker Ring

BUFFALO, N.Y. – U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that Xiao Cheng Lin, 50, and Ling Zen Hu, 51, of Flushing, N.Y., who were convicted of conspiracy to import goods falsely classified, were sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Richard J. Arcara. Xiao Cheng Lin was sentenced to one year in prison and a $7,500 fine. Lin’s husband, Ling Zen Hu, was sentenced to six months in prison and a $6,000 fine.
