Niagara Falls: Hate Crime in a Tourist City

In a city that houses a wonder of the world, in which thousands flock to see every year, a young Pakistani woman was assaulted because of her ethnicity.  Niagara Falls is a city that welcomes thousands of people from every part of the world year round, they are now dealing with a rare hate crime.

Police say they do not expereince many hate crimes in their city, this is proven by the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services, who released their annual report on hate crimes for 2010 in July 2011. According to the report there were 699 hate crime incidents reported in NYS in 2010, which is an increase of 2%. Hate crimes against persons increased 29% while hate crimes against property declined 26%. Incidents with a race/ethnicity/national origin bias increased 11%, in 2010. Niagara County comes in pretty low compared to other counties in NYS.
