No Tolls on Christmas Day at the Peace Bridge

No Tolls on Christmas Day at the Peace Bridge

BUFFALO, NY/FORT ERIE, ON. – Once again this year, the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority (Peace Bridge Authority) announces that it will not charge tolls on Saturday, December 25, in celebration of the Christmas holiday. The toll-free period will be in effect for 24 hours beginning at 12 AM Christmas morning.

“As a 24 hour per day, people-driven operation we wanted to look at ways that we could say thank you to our customers and our employees,” said Ken Schoetz the Peace Bridge Authority’s Chairman. “By not charging tolls on Christmas, we’re able to spread some holiday cheer and give as many of our employees as possible an opportunity to spend the day with their families.”

The Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority, a bi-national bridge authority, has owned and operated the Peace Bridge since 1933.

'Like’ the Food Bank of WNY

'Like’ the Food Bank of WNY

BUFFALO, NY – The Food Bank of Western New York is asking for help in a different way this winter.

In addition to cash and food donations, the Food Bank is asking that Western New Yorkers ‘like’ them; on Facebook that is.

“We are currently in the middle of a national in-store Walmart food drive,” Jeremy Juhasz, Social Media Coordinator for the Food Bank said. “The folks at Walmart have also set up a separate web site specifically for a complimentary Facebook competition among 100 markets spanning the nation.”

Facebook users choose to “support” a region, and Walmart will distribute $1.5 million to hunger relief organizations in those regions that finish 1-5. The Food Bank of WNY is part of those organizations listed underneath the Buffalo/Niagara Falls umbrella.

Here is all you have to do.

Lexan Glass Installed to Protect Stained Glass Windows

Lexan Glass Installed to Protect Stained Glass Windows

SOMERSET, N.Y. – The Somerset Union Methodist Episcopal Church is slowly being renovated and converted into a museum.  A layer of lexan glass has been installed over the stained glass windows in order to protect them from harm.  The three front windows on the church need repair but the remaining windows are almost completely intact.   Some folks driving by 8501 Lake Road have indicated that they think the windows look better with the protective layer.  The stained glass windows are original to the 1878 building and were most likely purchased from a local studio, in order to minimize shipping and installation costs.  The largest Buffalo manufacturer at the time was “Booth & Riester, Manufacturers of Ecclesiastic and Domestic Art Stained Glass.”
