Mount St. Mary's Hospital’s EmStar Emergency Dpt holds annual salute to local EMS personnel

The EmStar Emergency Department of Mount St. Mary’s Hospital will recognize local Emergency Medical Service (EMS) professionals at an awards dinner on Wednesday, May 20 at the Niagara Falls Country Club.  The dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Sponsored by Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Exigence/TeamHealth, the group of physicians that staff the hospital’s EmStar Emergency Department, the dinner is being held in conjunction with the hospital’s recognition of national EMS Week.  Dr. Lloyd Brown, chief of the Department of Emergency Medicine/EmStar, is the organizer of the event to salute EMS excellence.

“As EMS professionals are the first responders on the scene, the initial treatment and care assessment they provide to patients is extremely important and often life-saving,” said Dr. Brown.

Stella Niagara Preserve Receives $35,000 From Local Foundations

 

The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo has just approved a grant in the amount of $25,000 for the Western New York Land Conservancy for the creation of the Stella Niagara Preserve, a new, publicly-accessible nature preserve along the Niagara River in Lewiston. This news comes just days after the announcement that the M&T Charitable Foundation will contribute $10,000 toward the project! The Land Conservancy has now received more than $2.9 million of the more than $3.2 million needed to create the Stella Niagara Preserve.

North Amherst Banquet Hall to Host Community Events

 

A craft show, sportsman’s raffle and Father’s Day pancake breakfast are among the upcoming events planned at the North Amherst Banquet Hall, 2200 Tonawanda Creek Road, Amherst. All events are open to the public.

The craft show, sponsored by Traveling Vendors, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 30. The event boasts approximately 40 vendors and a basket auction featuring items donated by the show’s vendors. Basket winners do not need to be present to win, and proceeds from the event will benefit Special Spaces Buffalo. Admission is free!

Catholic Charities to Host Domestic Violence Training  Focusing on New York Model for Batterers

The National Training Institute on the New York Model for Batterer Programs will host “Domestic Violence Offender Accountability ~ What, Why and How to Get it Done” May 4 and 5 at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, 4369 South Buffalo St., Orchard Park, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Presented by Catholic Charities of Buffalo Domestic Violence Program for Men and VCS, Inc. Domestic Violence Program for Men of New City, the two-day training will discuss essential elements and requirements needed to achieve offender accountability, as well as how and why New York Model programs support the work of local, state and national battered women’s advocates. Social workers, advocate representatives, batterer program staff, and judiciary and domestic violence court personnel are urged to attend. This is the fifth New York Model conference held in Orchard Park.

Annual St. Francis Guild BBQ to benefit Mount St. Mary's Hospital

The terrific smell of barbecue chicken, ribs and pulled pork will be in the air at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital on Friday, May 1 from 3 - 6 p.m. for the St. Francis Guild’s 17th Annual Chicken & Ribs Barbecue.  The food will be cooked by Krolick’s and all of the proceeds benefit the hospital.

“This is such a fun event, with the drive through service for an easy Friday night supper, all to benefit our community’s health care. We are thankful for the wonderful support,” said Marie Chiarenza, president of the St. Francis Guild.

Last year more than 300 dinners were sold. Those picking up or purchasing dinners can drive to the traffic circle on the north side of the hospital for service.  The dinners include chicken, ribs, or pulled pork, two sides, and a roll.  Drive-through service is available from the hospital’s North (outpatient) Lobby.
