Paper by Niagara University Professor to be Published in International Science Journal

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. - Ronny Priefer, Ph.D., an associate professor of chemistry at Niagara University, has had a paper accepted for publication in Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, a peer-reviewed, international journal devoted to the underlying applications of colloids and interfacial phenomena. Dr. Priefer’s paper, entitled The use of the pseudo-polyelectrolyte, poly(4-vinylphenol), in multilayered films as an antimicrobial surface coating, outlines the creation of a type of coating for everyday surfaces that can kill dangerous bacteria on contact.

The accepted manuscript is currently available online at www.sciencedirect.com while the printed version of the study will appear in the March issue of Colloids and Surfaces.

NTCC Launches New Tourism Website

The Niagara Tourism and Convention Corporation (NTCC) launched an updated and newly designed website, www.Niagara-USA.com,  Jan. 6 after a surge in online web traffic in 2010 and 2009.  The website layout, navigation, colors and interactivity have all been overhauled to keep up with the growing demand for information on the Niagara USA destination.

“After a lot of research and customer feedback, we decided that the design and functionality of the website needed to be addressed.  In 2010, there was a 90 percent increase in website visitation from 2009,” said Jennifer Starkey, communications manager, who heads internet marketing at the NTCC.   “We wanted to provide potential visitors with the ability to become more engaged with the Niagara Falls and Niagara USA destinations in addition to offering more information on the region than ever before.”

Canadian Company Seeks Assistance From NCIDA For New Corrugated Box Facility In Lewiston

SANBORN, NEW YORK – The Niagara County Industrial Development Agency has accepted applications for assistance from Hamilton, Ontario-based HT Production for a proposed corrugated box manufacturing facility in Lewiston, Wheatfield Family Density for the construction for a new dental office as well as the construction of a new medical practice building in the Town of Newfane. The projects total more than $2 million in investment in Niagara County and the creation of 20 full time jobs and nine part-time positions.

President and CEO of Tourism Agency Named Chair of ABA Event

John Percy, president and CEO of the Niagara Tourism and Convention Corporation (NTCC), will be chairman of the 2011 American Bus Association (ABA) Marketplace in Philadelphia, January 8-12.

As chairman, Percy will head ABA’s Marketplace, a business event for the group travel industry, which allows group travel buyers and sellers to meet face-to-face in pre-scheduled appointments. In addition to the in-person appointments, Marketplace offers professional education seminars and numerous networking opportunities.

“It is an honor and privilege to have been selected by ABA to serve in this capacity and I look forward to being a part of the premier event for the tourism industry,” said Percy, who has been a member of the organization for 22 years.
