After a year without a permanent Executive Director, The Belle Center looks to a familiar face to steer the community agency into new phases of growth.

Buffalo, New York (August 9, 2013) The month of August 2013 marked the start of an exciting journey for Lucy A. Candelario, former Executive Director of West Side Community Services. She assumed the chief role as Executive Director of The Belle Center, one of the largest all-encompassing human services agencies located on the Lower West Side of Buffalo at 104 Maryland Street.

“Lucy is bright and highly experienced in nonprofit management and I’m confident that we made the right decision to bring her on board,” stated Dr. Kushnood Haq, Interim Board Chair of The Belle Center. “The Belle Center has faced some extremely tough financial challenges this year and we’re on the road to recovery with the collective efforts of the Board of Directors, Lucy and her staff, The Belle Center’s future is bright! Our goal is to serve the children and families in our community more effectively and we’re strategically positioning the agency to operate at a higher level to meet the community’s needs.”

Candelario brings nearly thirty years of knowledge and expertise in the nonprofit industry to The Belle Center. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University at Buffalo and is a graduate of the Buffalo public high school formally known as Grover Cleveland. Although, new to the position, she’s not new to the organization as in the past, she served as a program director at the agency for eight years.

“I am grateful for my eighteen years at West Side Community Services and thank the Board of Directors and dedicated staff for their support while there and throughout this transition,” stated Lucy A. Candelario, Executive Director of The Belle Center. “I’m delighted to be back at The Belle Center. It feels as though I’ve come full circle and I’m looking forward to working with the dedicated staff and service oriented volunteer Board of Directors here. I’m confident that we can fiscally restructure the agency to achieve and maintain financial sustainability to establish a pattern of smart growth and continue to provide the quality of services desperately needed to help improve our community.”

The Belle Center was founded in 1976. She will oversee a staff of over fifty people and the agency’s cradle to success model that includes: Day Care; Universal Pre-Kindergarten; Before and After-school programming; Buffalo AmeriCorps; Supervision and Treatment Services for Juveniles; Evening Prevention Program, Senior Wellness; Food Pantry and other in-house partner services from Erie County Department of Social Services; BPS Adult Education ELL classes; BMHA resident services; People Inc. respite program; Community Health Network of Buffalo and City of Buffalo Youth Counseling.
