Kick-off the Holidays at the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum
Kick-off the Holidays at the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum

The Herschell carrousel companies operated in Western New York for almost a century, beginning in the late 1800s. In that time many aspects of everyday life changed profoundly, and Christmas was no exception. Kick-off the holiday season by learning about changes in American holiday traditions, and especially New York’s contributions to American Christmas customs. Learn about holiday traditions from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries with themed trees and hands-on objects; make an ornament to help trim our tree and yours; ride on our 1916 carrousel, decorated for the season; and of course visit the Museum Store for unique holiday gifts.

Visitors of all ages will enjoy getting into the festive holiday spirit, as well as learning more about some of our most cherished Christmas customs. Mark your calendar to join us on Friday, November 25, 2011 or Sunday, November 27, 2011 between 12:00pm and 4:00pm. This program is included in regular admission ($5 adults; $4 seniors; $2.50 students ages 2 – 12). ***IMPORTANT, PLEASE NOTE*** On Saturday, November 26 the first of our annual “Santa on the Carrousel” programs will be taking place at the museum. This program features food, entertainment, crafts, and is NOT included in regular admission. Please contact the museum for more information about this separate program.

If you can’t join us for the Kick-Off Celebration, have no fear; many of the decorations, activities, and crafts will be offered daily throughout the holiday season, making this a perfect time to visit. Winter hours are Wednesday–Sunday, 12:00pm–4:00pm. The museum is closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and is closed for the season starting Saturday, December 31, 2011.

The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum is housed in the historic Allan Herschell Company Factory building at 180 Thompson Street, North Tonawanda. For directions and further information about special events, programs or group tours, visit our web site: www.carrouselmuseum.org or contact us at 716-693-1885 or info@carrouselmuseum.org

These events are made possible, in part, with funds from the Arts Niagara Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Tonawandas’ Council on the Arts/Carnegie Art Center.

This project is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services.
